Silk was born Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. Ilkay Silk is the daughter of Peter Silk, who is an academic as well as Anna Silk who is a director, actress and producer. She is also a playwright. Anna recalls her mother's work as a play director and also attending rehearsals. Silk was a part of a variety of commercials where she was featured when she was young. She graduated from St. Thomas University with the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas staged at least two early plays: Seven Menus & The Kitchen.
